The coronavirus pandemic and the full-scale invasion have severely impacted the domestic dairy industry. The reduction in the number of cows, negative effects on their health due to shelling and power outages, and rising resource costs have all catastrophically worsened the situation in milk production.
The USAID AGRO Activity initiated a project aimed at increasing the profitability of milk production for MSMEs by implementing a modern dairy herd management system on farms. As part of this project, the Lviv Agrarian Advisory Service provides laboratory, veterinary, and zootechnical services to milk producers, offering savings of up to 50% on these services.
Every month, milk samples from each cow are analyzed in the Advisory Service’s laboratory. The farm management uses the obtained reports to assess the situation and plan activities related to feeding cows (as well as specific physiological and production groups), disease prevention, cow treatment, and culling.
This approach allows for managing cow health and milk quality, optimizing the use of expensive protein feeds, reducing veterinary drug costs, and significantly increasing cow productivity per lactation.
